This is how you leave a city:

This is how you leave a city:
Always leave its lights on
You can choose to leave in the morning
But please leave the curtains drawn.
Light comes scarcely to grief.

Don’t forget to take with you your belongings
They are not people to chase you in the rain
Keep them like how you keep photographs of your childhood
Remember you have them
like how your mother’s lullaby would always keep you.

Keep your windows rolled down
And maybe, just maybe
The wind’s howl will remind you
The sound of the mountains
Do you remember?
It was December, we were conquerors.
You held my cold hands and told me
How beautiful the wind sounded
we kept our eyes shut
It wasn’t too long when you let go.

It was so good to see you again
I said in the most convincing tone
Then you told me how much you didn’t mean it
It was long over but I still remember so vividly.
I remember I told you to drive safe
And please leave the lights on when you leave.
